Danny Western 7th in England Golf Men’s Open Mid Amateur Championship (Logan Trophy)

The England Golf Men’s Open Amateur Championship was held at Thorpeness Golf Club 2-4th July. 144 competitors took part which included 12 Suffolk based players. A cut was made after 36 with the top 45 players + ties progressing to play the final 18 holes.

The cut fell at 155 (15 over par) The following failed to make the cut Ivan Fryer (Aldeburgh Artisans) 75-82-157, Dave Quinney (Haverhill) 76-81-157, Ben Leuty (Gorleston) 75-86-161, Steve Crosby (Gorleston) 82-83-165, Neil Meadows (Felixstowe Ferry) 83-86-169, James Ollington (Aldeburgh) 81-89-170, Andy Whittaker (Woodbridge) 84-88-172 and Richard Saville (Ipswich) 93-88-181

4 Suffolk players made the cut. Danny Western (Gorleston) had the best finish after rounds of 73, 74 and 72 left him on 219 and in 7th place overall.

Will Wright (Aldeburgh) had 77,78 and 74 for 229, Andrew Underwood (Bury St Edmunds) 74,78 and 81 for 233 and Richard Weaver (Thorpeness) 74,80 and 86 for 240

The Championship was won by Philip Ridden (City of Newcastle) with 68,72 and 75 for 215- 5 over par.
